Garage door opener installation
We choose the drive type for your door and your household, mount it correctly, set the force and test the safety reverse before we leave. The price is quoted before we start.

Signs it's this
- Your opener is more than 10 to 15 years old, or parts are no longer made
- It repeatedly fails, stalls or needs new boards and gears
- It has no photo eyes, or the photo eyes have been disconnected
- You want a quieter opener, especially with a bedroom above the garage
- You want smartphone control, a battery backup or a keypad
- You are replacing the door and the opener will not match the new weight
Do this now
If the old opener still works, keep using it, but test the safety reverse by laying a 2x4 flat on the floor under the door. If the door doesn't reverse when it touches the board, stop using the opener. Never bypass photo eyes that have stopped working.

What we check on the visit
- Door weight and balance, since the opener should not carry the door
- Headroom, ceiling height and hanging points
- Door width, so we choose the right rail length
- Photo eye position, mounted no higher than 6 inches above the floor
- Safety reverse test with a solid object in the door's path
- Force and travel limits, set to the lightest working setting
- Remote, keypad and wall control programmed, and Wi-Fi paired if the model has it

Smart upgrade
Most new openers can come with app control built in.
Phone control, alerts, cameras, smart keypads and battery backup. We go over what each model does before you pick one.

Ringed in green: the parts this page covers.
1 Torsion spring
Springs are rated for a set number of cycles. When one snaps, the door suddenly weighs 150 to 250 pounds.

2 Cable drum and cables
Cables fray and slip off the drum, and the door hangs crooked or stops partway.
from $149Read the entry
3 Opener motor
The motor hums or clicks but will not lift. Stripped gears and burned boards are common.
from $129Read the entry
4 Track
A bent or loose track throws the rollers out, and the door jams or comes off.

5 Hinges and rollers
Worn rollers grind, wobble and wear the track. Cracked hinges let panels flex.

Bumped out of line, the safety eyes make the door reverse or refuse to close.

Parts and options
- Chain-drive opener
- Metal chain pulls the door. The lowest cost and a long track record, but louder than a belt.
- Belt-drive opener
- A reinforced belt replaces the chain. Quieter, a good fit when a bedroom or living space is next to the garage.
- Wall-mount (jackshaft) opener
- Mounts on the wall beside the torsion bar and frees the ceiling. Good for high-lift, low-headroom or finished garages.
- Photo eyes and wall control
- Included with a new opener. Photo eyes are required by safety standards.
- Battery backup
- Lets the opener run through a short power outage on many newer models.
- Brands we commonly see
- LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie. We recommend a model after checking your door and your needs.
Chain, belt or wall-mount?
Budget matters most and noise does not
Chain-drive, from $449.
A bedroom, office or living space shares a wall with the garage
Belt-drive, from $599.
The garage ceiling is finished, or you need headroom for a high-lift track or storage
Wall-mount (jackshaft), from $899.
The door is heavy or oversized
Tell us the size when you call. We size the opener to the door, and we also check the springs.
The old opener works but is loud and slow
Replace it if parts are scarce, or if you want a belt drive or battery backup.
Choosing an opener for a Texas garage
Many Central Texas garages run hot in summer, so a motor rated for the load and a soft-start drive help hold up. Newer homes often have a bedroom or bonus room over the garage, which is where a belt drive or wall-mount unit pays off in noise. Check HOA rules if you want to add a visible keypad or camera.

Questions people ask on the phone
How much does a new garage door opener cost in Round Rock?
Installed prices start at $449 for chain-drive, $599 for belt-drive and $899 for wall-mount. The final price depends on the model, rail length and options. You get the exact price in writing before we start.
What is the difference between chain, belt and wall-mount openers?
A chain drive pulls the door with a metal chain and costs the least. A belt drive uses a reinforced belt and is quieter. A wall-mount opener sits beside the spring bar and leaves the ceiling clear.
Are photo eyes required on new openers?
Yes. U.S. safety standard UL 325 requires entrapment protection on residential openers, which means a safety reverse and photo eyes. We mount the eyes no higher than 6 inches above the floor and test both.
Do you install the opener the same day you diagnose it?
When we have the opener in stock, often yes, but we don't promise a timing. We tell you what we have and when the rest can arrive.
What warranty comes with a new opener?
One year on our labor, and the opener carries its manufacturer warranty. The length of the motor and parts warranty depends on the model.
