Smart garage door opener installation in Austin and Round Rock

We add phone control to the opener you have when it can take it, and install a new smart opener when it can't. We check your opener's model before we sell you anything.

Signs it's this

  • You drive off and wonder whether you closed the garage door
  • Packages sit on the porch in the heat because nobody is home to open the door
  • You hand out your code or a spare remote to every guest, dog walker and contractor
  • Your opener is old enough that it has no rolling code, or no photo eyes
  • A summer storm knocks the power out and the car is stuck inside until you pull the release cord
  • You want to know when the door opens while you are away

Do this now

If you can't tell whether the door is closed, check from inside the house before you leave. Many smart devices beep or flash before the door closes from the app, so leave that on and keep kids and pets clear of the door. Never bypass or tape over photo eyes to make a new gadget work. If the door has to be moved by hand, pull the red release cord only when the door is closed and you know the springs are sound.

What we check on the visit

  1. Opener brand, model and the color of the learn button, which tells us which smart hubs can work
  2. How old the opener is, and what drive it has
  3. Wi-Fi signal where the opener hangs, not where your router sits
  4. Photo eyes, checked for alignment, mounting height and a working signal
  5. Safety reverse, tested with a solid object in the door's path
  6. Door balance, because a smart opener cannot fix a door with a weak or broken spring
  7. Where a keypad, camera or backup battery will go, and any HOA rules about what shows from the street

Parts and options

Wi-Fi hub for the opener you have
Adds app control, open and close alerts and schedules to many newer openers. On some older ones it can only report whether the door is open, not move it. Fit depends on brand, model and learn button color.
New Wi-Fi opener
Wi-Fi is built in, and the drive is usually a quiet belt. Our pick when the old opener is loud, failing, or too old for a hub.
Camera opener
An opener with a built-in camera and lights. Live view and alerts run in the maker's app. Saved video usually costs a monthly fee from the maker.
Smart keypad
A keypad outside the door. Some models let you add and remove codes from the app, so a guest or a delivery driver gets their own code. We confirm what each model does before you buy.
Battery backup
Available on many models. It keeps the opener running through a short power outage. The manual release cord is always there as well.
Wall-mount (jackshaft) opener
Mounts on the wall beside the spring bar and clears the ceiling. Several wall-mount models include Wi-Fi and battery backup. We check the model.
Third-party Wi-Fi controllers
Tailwind and Meross style controllers can add Apple Home, Alexa or Google control to some openers. They do not work with the newest openers that have a white learn button.

Brands we work on

All brands

Add a hub or replace the opener?

A newer LiftMaster or Chamberlain with a yellow, purple, orange or green learn button, a sectional door and working photo eyes

Add a hub. It is the cheapest way to get phone control, and we confirm the model on the visit.

A white learn button, the newest openers

Third-party hubs will not work on it. We use the maker's own app and accessories.

A blue learn button or a DIP-switch opener, or a brand a hub can only monitor

Replace it. A hub can watch these openers but cannot move the door.

The opener is loud, slow, failing, or has no working photo eyes

Replace it. Don't put a new hub on an opener that is wearing out.

You want a camera, built-in lights or battery backup

Choose a new opener that has them built in, or add them to your model if it allows.

The door is heavy, drags, or has a weak or broken spring

Fix the door first. No hub changes how a door lifts.

Heat, storms and smart openers in Central Texas

A Texas garage gets hot in summer, and heat is hard on electronics and shortens battery life, so we keep hubs, cameras and backup batteries out of direct sun where we can. Wi-Fi often fades at the garage wall, which is why we test the signal at the opener. Summer storms bring power blips. An opener with no backup stops when the power goes, and the app cannot open a door that has no power. A surge protector is cheap insurance for the opener's board. If you want a keypad or camera that shows from the street, check your HOA rules first.

Questions people ask on the phone

Can I add Wi-Fi to my existing garage door opener?

Often, not always. It depends on the brand, the model, how old it is and whether the safety sensors work. The learn button color tells us a lot. We check your model before we sell you anything. If a hub won't work on your opener, we say so and price a new one.

Does myQ work with Apple Home, Google or Alexa?

Not directly, as far as we can confirm. Chamberlain ended its Apple Home bridge in 2022 and Google Assistant support in 2023, and it blocked third-party access in November 2023. The newest openers, with a white learn button, do not work with Tailwind or Meross style hubs. Voice support varies by brand and changes over time, so ask us what works with your opener today.

Is there a monthly fee for a smart garage door opener?

Basic open, close and alert control in the maker's app is free on many systems. Video storage from a camera is usually extra, and the plans and prices change, so check the app before you buy. We tell you what applies to your model.

Can packages be delivered inside my garage?

Amazon Key in-garage delivery works for Prime members when your door opens in the maker's app, such as myQ or Aladdin Connect. Amazon decides whether your address is covered. We handle the opener side, and we can add a hub if your opener needs one.

What happens if the power or the Wi-Fi goes out?

If the Wi-Fi drops, the app can't reach the opener, but the wall button, remotes and keypad still work. If the power goes out, an opener without battery backup stops, and you use the red release cord. Models with battery backup keep running through a short outage.
