Garage door and gate repair in Austin

We drive down from Round Rock, and the Austin houses we land at have little in common: older central-city homes with odd openings, east-side lots on clay, condos behind one shared gate.

The homes in Austin

Austin has more variety than any other city we serve. Hyde Park, Clarksville and Tarrytown are among the older neighborhoods. Hyde Park dates to 1891, and older homes like these can have garages or openings that are not a standard size. Mueller is a master-planned neighborhood on the former airport site, with much newer construction. South Austin neighborhoods like Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights mix older bungalows with new builds that replaced them. Ground changes across town: limestone and rock on the west side, expansive clay toward the east.

What we see in Austin

Non-standard openings on older homes

Garages in the older central neighborhoods can have odd widths, low headroom or little room for a standard track layout. A new door may need custom sizing. We measure the opening before quoting so you do not pay for a door that does not fit.

Historic districts and neighborhood rules

If your house sits in a historic district or a neighborhood with design review, a new door may need approval for style and color. Ask your neighborhood association or the city before you order, and we will give you the details they ask for.

Clay movement on the east side

Seasonal swelling and shrinking of clay soil can shift a slab and a gate post by an inch or more over a year. A door that rubs on one side, a gap at the bottom seal or a gate that no longer latches can all trace back to ground movement.

Shared gates and parking garages

Condos, townhomes and small apartment buildings in the core often share a gate or a rolling door. Repairs there involve the property manager and often a keypad, intercom or loop detector, not just the operator.

Getting to Austin from Main Street

From the Round Rock office, head south on I-35 into Austin. North Austin is a short run down I-35 and Loop 1 (MoPac). Central and south Austin are further down I-35 and across the river.

Austin questions

Do you serve all of Austin or just north Austin?

We drive from Round Rock to Austin addresses across Travis County, and north Austin is the closest run. Give us your ZIP on the phone and we set the arrival window from there.

Can you make a new door fit an older Austin garage?

Often, yes. Older garages can have non-standard widths and low headroom. We measure the opening and the headroom first, then quote a door and track layout that fits.

I live in a historic district. Can I replace my garage door?

Usually, but some districts and neighborhood associations review the style and color first. Check with them before ordering. We can give you the panel pattern, color and window style for your application.

Do you repair shared gates for condos and apartments?

Yes. We repair swing and slide operators, keypads and intercoms. Contact your property manager first, since they usually approve the work. A free on-site quote covers new gates.

What does an after-hours call cost?

Between 7am and 8pm the service call is $49. A call outside those hours is an emergency trip and adds $149.
