Garage door tune-up and safety check
Your garage door is the heaviest moving thing in the house. A yearly check catches worn cables, rollers and sensors before they fail, and keeps the door quiet and balanced.

Signs it's this
- The door is noisy, with squeaks, grinding or popping
- It shakes, jerks or moves slower than it used to
- It has not been serviced in over a year
- You see frayed cable strands, rust or loose hardware
- The door doesn't stay up when you open it halfway by hand
- You are buying or selling a house and want the door checked
Do this now
Test the safety reverse yourself. With the door open, lay a 2x4 board flat on the floor in its path and close it with the opener. If the door doesn't reverse when it touches the board, stop using the opener and call us. Don't adjust springs or cables.

Ringed in green: the parts this page covers.
1 Torsion spring
Springs are rated for a set number of cycles. When one snaps, the door suddenly weighs 150 to 250 pounds.
from $229Read the entry
2 Cable drum and cables
Cables fray and slip off the drum, and the door hangs crooked or stops partway.
from $149Read the entry
3 Opener motor
The motor hums or clicks but will not lift. Stripped gears and burned boards are common.
from $129Read the entry
4 Track
A bent or loose track throws the rollers out, and the door jams or comes off.
from $149Read the entry
5 Hinges and rollers
Worn rollers grind, wobble and wear the track. Cracked hinges let panels flex.
from $139Read the entry
6 Door photo eyes
Bumped out of line, the safety eyes make the door reverse or refuse to close.
from $120Read the entry
7 Solar panel
Dust, shade and summer heat cut the charge the gate battery needs overnight.
from $149Read the entry
8 Gate control box
Storm surges and heat burn control boards and wear out the backup battery.

9 Gate operator arm
A worn or undersized arm strains and stalls on a long, heavy gate.

Parts and options
- Lubricant and fasteners
- Moving parts are lubricated and hardware is tightened, which cures most squeaks.
- Rollers and hinges
- Inspected and replaced only if worn. Price is quoted before any parts work.
- Cables and springs
- Inspected for wear. We show you what we see and quote any replacement before we start.
- Photo eyes and safety reverse
- Tested every visit, and adjusted if needed.
- Weatherseal
- The rubber seal at the bottom of the door. A cracked one lets in heat, water and bugs.
Do you need a tune-up or a repair?
The door works but is loud or slow
Tune-up. Lubrication, tightening and balance often fix it.
The door is sticking, crooked or off the track
Repair. See off-track repair.
You see frayed cables or a gap in a spring
Repair. See cable and roller repair or spring replacement.
The opener reverses, flashes or ignores the remote
Opener repair, usually a sensor or a setting.
You have not had the door checked in a year or more
Tune-up. Springs, cables and sensors wear on a schedule, not on a warning.
Yearly service for Texas heat
Summer heat dries out grease and bakes weatherseal, and spring storms bring dust and moisture that rust bare steel. A tune-up before summer helps the door survive the hottest months, and it takes less time than a repair call. Use a garage door lubricant, not a heavy grease, which collects dust.

Questions people ask on the phone
How much does a garage door tune-up cost in Round Rock?
A tune-up and safety check starts at $120. With our tune-up coupon it is $89. Tell us about the coupon when you call. One coupon per visit, and coupons don't combine.
What does a garage door tune-up include?
A balance test, an inspection of springs, cables, rollers, hinges and track, lubrication, tightening, photo eye and safety reverse testing, and an opener settings check. We show you anything that is worn and quote it before any repair.
How often should I have my garage door serviced?
Once a year is a good rule for a door used daily. A door that cycles a lot, or sits in a hot garage, benefits from a check before summer.
Can I do a tune-up myself?
You can clean and lubricate rollers and hinges and test the safety reverse. Don't adjust springs, cables or bottom brackets, which are under high tension.
Is the $89 tune-up deal real?
Yes. The tune-up coupon is $89 on a full tune-up and safety check, regularly $120. Mention it when you call or book.
