Gate opener installation
We match the operator to your gate's weight, length and power supply, install the safety devices, and quote the job in writing before we start.

Signs it's this
- You have a manual gate and are tired of getting out of the car
- Your old operator is worn out or no longer made
- You are adding a gate to an existing fence or driveway entrance
- Your HOA or insurer wants a gate that closes behind every vehicle
- A swing gate that sags or drags and has outgrown a small residential opener
Do this now
If a gate is already automated and misbehaving, keep people and cars out of its path and use the operator's manual release key to disengage it. Do not try to wire a new operator yourself. They run on line voltage, and a gate without safety sensors can hurt someone.
What it costs
Starting prices, installed. You get the exact price in writing before any work starts.
| Swing gate opener, single, installed | $2,495 |

| Gate service callWaived when you approve a gate repair | $95 |
What we check on the visit
- Gate type, swing or slide, and which way it opens
- Gate weight and length, which decide the size of operator you need
- Post condition, hinge strength and whether the gate rolls or swings freely by hand
- Power, whether AC at the gate, a trench for a new run, or a solar system
- Safety devices required by UL 325, with photo eyes and sensing edges at minimum
- Entry and exit controls, such as keypad, remote, loop detector or intercom
- HOA rules on color, sound, hours and fire department access

Smart upgrade
Plan the smart part with the opener.
App control, keypads with codes per person, cellular call boxes and solar backup are easier to wire in on install day.

Where it fails
The ringed numbers are the parts this entry covers. Tap any number to see what fails and where the price starts.
Ringed in green: the parts this page covers.
1 Torsion spring
Springs are rated for a set number of cycles. When one snaps, the door suddenly weighs 150 to 250 pounds.
from $229Read the entry
2 Cable drum and cables
Cables fray and slip off the drum, and the door hangs crooked or stops partway.
from $149Read the entry
3 Opener motor
The motor hums or clicks but will not lift. Stripped gears and burned boards are common.
from $129Read the entry
4 Track
A bent or loose track throws the rollers out, and the door jams or comes off.
from $149Read the entry
5 Hinges and rollers
Worn rollers grind, wobble and wear the track. Cracked hinges let panels flex.
from $139Read the entry
6 Door photo eyes
Bumped out of line, the safety eyes make the door reverse or refuse to close.
from $120Read the entry
7 Solar panel
Dust, shade and summer heat cut the charge the gate battery needs overnight.
from $149Read the entry
8 Gate control box
Storm surges and heat burn control boards and wear out the backup battery.
from $149Read the entry
9 Gate operator arm
A worn or undersized arm strains and stalls on a long, heavy gate.
from $2,495Read the entry
10 Gate photo eye, left post
A blocked or misaligned eye stops the gate mid-swing for safety.
from $95Read the entry
11 Gate photo eye, right post
The matching eye on the far post. Both have to see each other.

12 Vehicle loop
A cut or worn loop in the drive means the gate will not open for cars leaving.

Equipment and options
- Single swing operator
- One arm for one hinged leaf. Good for gates up to a size the manufacturer rates for. Brands we commonly see include LiftMaster and Mighty Mule.
- Dual swing operator
- Two arms for a double leaf driveway gate, with a controller that coordinates both leaves.
- Slide operator
- Drives a gate along a track or on a cantilever. Takes less room than a swing gate and suits steep or tight driveways.
- Linear and articulated arms
- Linear arms push and pull in a straight line. Articulated arms fold like an elbow and fit when a post sits close to the gate.
- Solar power kit
- A panel and battery bank for a gate far from power. Needs good sun and a battery sized for heat.
- Safety devices
- Photo eyes and sensing edges, plus loop detectors where traffic requires them.
Swing or slide?
Flat driveway with room for the gate to open inward
Swing is simpler and costs less.
Driveway slopes up from the street
Slide, because a swing gate will scrape a rising grade.
Heavy or wide gate over 16 feet
Slide or a heavy-duty dual swing, sized to the gate's weight.
Gate is far from power
Solar if you get full sun, trenched AC if you do not.
Existing manual gate is lightweight and well hung
A single or dual swing operator can often be added without rebuilding the gate.
HOA rules and Texas ground
HOAs in Lakeway, Round Rock and Georgetown communities often set rules on gate color, sound levels and fire department access, so check before you buy. Expansive clay soil moves gate posts over time, which is why we check the hinge side and recommend setting posts deep before adding an operator. Summer heat also shortens battery life on solar systems.

Questions people ask on the phone
How much does it cost to install a gate opener near Austin?
A single swing opener starts at $2,495, a dual swing opener at $3,995, and a slide gate opener at $1,995, all installed. These are starting prices. Power runs, heavy gates and extra access control add to the total, so we give a written quote after seeing your gate.
Can you add an opener to the gate I already have?
Often yes, if the gate swings or slides freely by hand and the posts are solid. We check weight, length and hinges first. If the gate is binding or sagging, we fix that before adding an operator.
Do I need solar or AC power?
AC is more reliable if power is close. Solar works well on a long drive with full sun, but needs a battery sized for Texas heat and a clear panel. We'll tell you which makes sense on your site.
What safety devices do gate operators need?
UL 325 requires entrapment protection on automatic gates. That usually means photo eyes and sensing edges. We install them as part of the job.
Can you work with my HOA or property manager?
Yes. We can provide a written estimate for your board, work to your community's rules, and install a gate with logs and access control for residents.
